Chinese Foreign Ministry: Beijing will not remain inactive regarding the conflict in Ukraine

The PRC is not going to be inactive regarding the conflict in Ukraine, but it is not going to contribute to its further escalation, said Foreign Minister Wang Yi during a meeting with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.

“China will not sit idly by and will not add fuel to the fire, we are going to continue to play our role in our own way,” the diplomat said (quote according to TASS).

He said the Chinese side supports the EU and major European countries to continue to actively mediate and make every effort to achieve peace.

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Wang Wenbin declaredthat the government of the country calls on the parties to the conflict in Ukraine for a ceasefire and a settlement through dialogue. He also stressed that China hopes that the international community "should create a suitable space and conditions" for negotiations.

This is how Beijing reacted to the introduction of partial mobilization in Russia. It was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin on 21 September. Russians called up for military service by mobilization will receive the status, payments and all social guarantees of military personnel serving under a contract, Putin promised.

According to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, a total of 300,000 people will be called up - about 1% of the mobilization resource.
