Stopping the supply of weapons to the war zone in Ukraine could stop the conflict. This was announced by the Special Representative of the Chinese Government for Eurasian Affairs Li Hui.

“We believe that if there is a real desire to stop the fighting, save lives and achieve peace, we need to stop supplying weapons to the war zone,” declared he (TASS quote).

At a briefing at the Chinese Association of Public Diplomacy in Beijing, the Special Representative specified that it is necessary to “adhere to peaceful methods” of resolving the conflict in Ukraine, otherwise there is a risk of escalation “in a spiral.”

Commenting on the readiness of Russia and Ukraine for a peace treaty, he noted that he “felt that both sides had not tightly closed the doors to negotiations.”

Hui thinksthat possible negotiations on the conflict in Ukraine could be “fruitful”, but it would be “difficult for all parties to get together” for them, so an initiative from one of them is needed.

In May, the Chinese special envoy visited Ukraine, Poland, France, Russia, Germany and Belgium, where he discussed the problems of the Ukrainian crisis. At the end of May, Li Hui arrived in Moscow to negotiate a settlement of the crisis in Ukraine with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin.

On February 24, on the anniversary of the start of the special operation, China presented its plan to get out of the Ukrainian conflict, which includes 12 points, including respect for the sovereignty of all countries, the cessation of hostilities, the start of peace negotiations, etc. Western countries and official Kiev rejected this plan.

The Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized the supply of Western weapons to Kyiv. In particular, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, warned that pumping Ukraine with weapons brings NATO closer to the dangerous line of a direct military clash with Russia.
