British intelligence in its report on the situation in Ukraine for February 5 reported that the situation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Bakhmut (Artemovsk) had worsened.

As noted in the document, Russian forces continued to advance in order to encircle Bakhmut.

“Routes M03 and H32 – the two main access routes to the city for Ukrainian defenders – are now likely under direct fire as a result of the latest advances in Russian forces,” British intelligence said.

In addition, the report says that earlier the Wagner PMC fighters took control of another road connecting Bakhmut with Seversk.

Ukrainian units remaining in Bakhmut, which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky decided not to surrender, continue to be supplied only by alternative routes over rough terrain.

“Bakhmut finds himself increasingly isolated,” says a British intelligence report.
