British Foreign Secretary: The West has never threatened Russia

The West has never threatened Russia or tried to encroach on its territorial integrity, said British Foreign Secretary James Cleverley. Thus, he commented on the statements of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“Of course, we have seen these threats before. We have never threatened Russia, we have never tried to encroach on its territorial integrity, but we will continue to support the Ukrainians,” the Foreign Minister stressed (quote according to RIA Novosti).

During his address to citizens on the issues of referendums in the territories of the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics (LPR and DPR), Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, Putin said that Western countries had launched “nuclear blackmail”, calling on Kyiv to transfer hostilities to the territory of Russia. “We are talking not only about the shelling of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, which is encouraged by the West, which threatens a nuclear catastrophe, but also about the statements of some high-ranking representatives of the leading NATO states about the possibility and admissibility of using weapons of mass destruction against Russia,” the president said.

In response, the United States said that they are serious about Putin’s words about nuclear weapons. For Russia, the use of nuclear weapons will have consequences and will affect the country’s position on the world stage, said John Kirby, coordinator for strategic communications at the White House National Security Council.
