The operator of the Unified Biometric System (UBS) “Center for Biometric Technologies” (CBT) will begin to implement technology to protect against deepfakes. The company agreed with the developer VisionLabs on the joint development and implementation of solutions for the protection of the EBS during the CIPR (Digital Industry of Industrial Russia) conference in Nizhny Novgorod on May 31. This was told to Vedomosti by CBT CEO Vladislav Povolotsky and VisionLabs CEO Dmitry Markov.

A deepfake is the synthesis of fake images, audio or video using neural networks. Currently, one of the biggest threats to biometric services is spoofing attacks with virtual video substitution, when a fraudster pretends to be any reliable source, the representative of the developer specified. Therefore, the CBT and VisionLabs will focus on developing a solution for detecting deepfake attacks, he added.
