National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan told reporters at a briefing that Joe Biden believes a diplomatic solution in Ukraine is still possible.
According to Sullivan, this settlement should be based on the basic principles of the UN charter, which everyone signed up to.
“He continues to believe it strongly enough,” the White House spokesman added.
He also noted that from everyday contacts with the Ukrainian side, including with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, the White House had the impression that Kyiv adheres to the same point of view.
At the same time, Sullivan refused to comment on Zelensky’s statement about refusing to negotiate with Russia until the president is replaced there, citing that he does not know the context of this statement.
