Bayern thrashed Dinamo Zagreb 9-2 in the Champions League
The first day of the Champions League, which started in a new format, pleased with the scoring: 28 goals were scored in six matches, or an average of 4.67 goals per game. However, the meeting between Bayern and Dinamo Zagreb in Munich, which ended with a score of 9:2, still stands out from the crowd. The current winner of the tournament, Real Madrid, had some difficulty beating Stuttgart on its home field - 3:1.
The start of the main European Cup, the first round of which will last for three days, turned out to be quite colorful. However, there were no sensations. After all, it is impossible to consider Liverpool's away victory over Milan, which is plunging into crisis, a 3:1, or the home defeat of the strongest Swiss club Young Boys by the average English championship team Aston Villa - 0:3, a surprise. The spectacularity of European football Tuesday was achieved due to the effectiveness - 28 goals in six matches! And in one of them, in Munich, between Bayern and Dinamo Zagreb, as many as 11 goals were scored: the hosts won with a score of 9:2.
The beating of the 25-time Croatian champion by the 33-time German champion, who finished third in the Bundesliga last season, did not begin immediately. Bayern leader Harry Kane scored his first of four goals from the penalty spot only in the 19th minute. But then the events developed faster than ever: even before the break, Raphael Guerreiro and Michael Oliseh increased the score to a large one, and it became clear that Dynamo was doomed.
The visitors, however, scored two goals early in the second half. But this only seemed to anger Kane and his teammates. The British striker ended up scoring four times, converting two more penalties. Oliseh scored twice, plus Leroy Sane and Leon Goretzka scored once each, with the final score in injury time. Kane's four goals allowed him to raise the bar of his phenomenal scoring in Munich even higher: in 50 matches for Bayern, he has already scored 53 goals. And his club will obviously top the Champions League standings following the first round, since no one is likely to achieve a better goal difference, which is the first additional indicator when points are tied, on Wednesday and Thursday.
In the three remaining matches, Turin's Juventus beat PSV Eindhoven at home 3-1, Lisbon's Sporting beat Lille 2-0, and the current holder of the main European Cup, Real Madrid, beat Stuttgart on its home field 3-1.
At first, the silver medalist of the German championship looked clearly preferable. The hosts' goal, defended by Thibaut Courtois, was threatened several times by Enzo Millot and Jimmy Leveling, and once after a ricochet the ball hit the crossbar. Immediately after the break, Real carried out a quick counterattack, which Maximilian Mittelstaedt, who did not reach the awkwardly flying ball with his left foot, could not stop, and Kylian Mbappe opened his scoring for the Madrid team in the Champions League. In the middle of the second half, Deniz Undav responded with an accurate header and the game seemed to be drawing. But first, after a cross from a corner by the 39-year-old Croatian Luka Modric, who came on as a substitute, into the visitors’ penalty area, a high jump and agility were demonstrated by the German defender of Real Madrid Antonio Rudiger, who began his professional career in Stuttgart, and finally, in a counterattack, the 18-year-old reserve of the Spanish champions, the Brazilian Endrik, scored.
