Baltzavod signed a contract for the construction of a nuclear technology service vessel

Part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) Baltiysky Zavod and Rosatomflot (an enterprise of Rosatom) signed a contract for the construction of a multifunctional nuclear technology service vessel (MSATO), the press service of the plant reported. The ship can be built before 2030.

“By order of the Government of the Russian Federation, JSC Baltiysky Zavod was appointed the sole executor of the state contract for the construction of a multifunctional nuclear technology service vessel (MSATO). It is designed to perform a full range of work on recharging nuclear power plants of existing nuclear icebreakers, as well as the Akademik Lomonosov FNPP (and, in the future, upgraded floating power units),” the release says.

According to the Secretary of State – Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Viktor Yevtukhov, the construction of the vessel is supposed to be financed according to the following scheme: 50% from the budget of the Russian Federation, 50% – from the investment program of Rosatom.

“Construction is envisaged in accordance with the Northern Sea Route development plan for the period up to 2035, approved by the order of the government of the Russian Federation, the planned completion date is 2029,” Yevtukhov said.

It follows from the Baltzavod press release that the MSATO is designed to carry out such technological operations as unloading spent nuclear fuel from the reactor facilities of the vessels being serviced, loading fresh nuclear fuel into the reactor facilities of the vessels being serviced, receiving, storing and issuing liquid radioactive waste generated during operation. ship reactor installations, as well as in the process of reloading nuclear fuel, etc.

Vessel length – 158.8 m, width – 26 m, displacement – 22,661 tons, speed – 12 knots.

In early April, Vedomosti already wrote citing sources that Atomflot agreed to conclude a contract for the construction of MSATO. At the same time, the sources of the publication specified that it would be signed between Atomflot and USC. It was clarified that the Baltic Shipyard would be engaged in the construction of the ship.
