A revolutionary proposal was made at an enlarged meeting of the commission of athletes of the Russian Olympic Committee: the retirement age for professional athletes in our country should be reduced.

This wish was expressed, in particular, by world volleyball champion Ekaterina Gamova and Olympic medalist in freestyle skiing Sergei Ridzik. The fact that this idea is supported by many athletes and should be considered by the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation was also publicly stated by the Olympic champion in fencing Sofya Velikaya.

The initiators referred to the fact that people who have devoted themselves to the sport of the highest achievements train and compete from a young age without days off and holidays. The following fact was also cited as an argument: early retirement is provided for in professional ballet.

Do not forget about the risks associated with high physical activity. It is no coincidence that sports doctors have repeatedly warned about the danger of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, asymptomatic joint damage, chronic muscle injuries and other diseases that await athletes.
