Astronomers discover 12 more moons of Jupiter

A dozen previously unknown satellites of Jupiter were discovered by astronomers, according to the Associated Press.
New moons of Jupiter were discovered using telescopes in Hawaii and Chile in 2021-2022, and in the course of further observations, astronomers confirmed their orbits.
The data was published by the Center for Minor Planets. The found satellites do not yet have names.
Thus, the total number of known satellites of Jupiter now reaches 92 – this is the largest number of moons among the planets of the solar system. Before this discovery, the record belonged to Saturn, it is known about 83 of its moons.
In an article on the website of the popular science magazine Sky & Telescope, it is specified that all the discovered satellites of Jupiter are small and are at a great distance from it. Its satellites make a revolution around the planet in more than 340 days.
