Assets of Russians and Belarusians worth $1.2 billion arrested in Ukraine

Since February, according to a report by the Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine, Belarusian and Russian assets totaling 44 billion hryvnias (approximately $1.2 billion) have been arrested in the country. More than $500 million fell on the cars and “inventory” in them.

“Among the most significant seized assets are: wagons and inventory in wagons worth about UAH 19 billion (about $500 million), assets of financial institutions in the amount of UAH 12.8 billion (about $350 million), assets of a filling station network, which are estimated at approximately 2 billion hryvnia (about $54 million), several shopping centers worth 1.3 billion hryvnia (about $35 million) and others,” the statement on the website of the Cabinet of Ministers says.

It also says that the Economic Security Bureau has compiled a list of 23 legal entities associated with Russia and Belarus, which the Ukrainian side will ask for inclusion in international sanctions lists.

The Ukrainian government is calling on the international community to transfer frozen Russian assets to Ukraine to rebuild the country after the fighting. Initiative criticized a number of European countries – in particular, Swiss officials fear that such a procedure could undermine the authority of the Western institution of private property.
