Andy Ruiz dominates Luis Ortiz in Los Angeles by unanimous decision

Andy Ruiz defeated Cuba's Luis Ortiz by 12-round unanimous decision on Sunday in a bout organized by the World Boxing Council (WBC) at Crypto Arena in Los Angeles. The judges' vote after 12 rounds was 113-112, 114-111 and 114-111 in favor of the American.

The former world heavyweight champion now has a 32-year-old record of 35 wins and two losses. Ortiz, 43, conceded his third loss (33 successes), the first two having been inflicted on him by the American Deontay Wilder, then holder of the WBC belt, in 2018 and 2019.

Ruiz can hope for another world chance

After a start slightly in his favor, Ortiz was counted twice in the second round after taking two right hooks from Ruiz Jr. After the third round, the American however had a swollen left cheekbone, the fault of two good opponent's lefts. The Cuban then fell a third time in the seventh round and, in bad shape, he was saved by the bell.
