An ancient legionary ant was found in a piece of amber from the Baltic region. This was reported in the press service of the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

It became known that the insect belongs to the new eyeless species Dissimulodorylus perseus and is a working individual. After taking x-rays and CT scans of the fossil, the team collected phylogenetic and morphological data to identify D. perseus as a close relative of the eyeless legionnaire ant species.

At the moment, this insect lives in Africa and South Asia.

It is noted that the age of the find is about 35 million years.
