In November last year, society was stirred up by the story of 18-year-old Leyla Gireeva, who fled Nazran from her family to St. Petersburg. According to the girl, her relatives systematically beat her and threatened to “strangle” her for disobedience, as she discredits the honor of the family. The other day there was an unexpected denouement: the girl was returned home to her relatives. “MK” found out what it could threaten her with.

On November 14, Leyla Gireeva ran away from her home in Ingushetia and ended up in a rented apartment in St. Petersburg. The programmer and volunteer from St. Petersburg Vladislav Khorev helped her with this – the girl wrote to him in advance. Before fleeing, she recorded a video in which she said that she left home voluntarily and begged not to extradite her to tyrant relatives. In an explanation to her lawyer, who appeared with her in St. Petersburg, she wrote: “My father beat me for wanting to change my profession and locked me at home against my will. Mom said that she did not care about my feelings, my desires, and that she would come up with an accusation and bring me back by force.

After the escape, the girl’s mother wrote a statement to the police against her – allegedly her daughter stole jewelry worth 275 thousand rubles from her. According to Layla, the charges are made up to bring her home. A criminal case was opened against the girl and put on the wanted list. She was detained by the police in St. Petersburg, but after eight hours she was released with the advice to “deal with her own family.” Layla, for her part, filed a domestic violence complaint against her parents. However, the police refused to open a case, according to the employees of the crisis center that helped her, “without explaining the reasons for the refusal.”

And now, after two months of silence in the case of Leyla, on February 1, information appeared that the girl was again detained by the police on the same statement about the theft, and after interrogation she was returned home to her family.

“MK” asked for clarification from the crisis group SK SOS, which helped Leila Gireeva.

“We contacted Leila directly, and she confirmed to us that she had voluntarily decided to return home to her relatives and try to somehow resolve the current conflict,” Alexandra Miroshnikova, press secretary of the SOS IC, told MK. The police didn’t arrest her. As she told us, she realized that the seriousness of the conflict with her relatives and the criminal case would not let her live in peace. And so she herself must somehow settle everything.

Miroshnikova also clarified that “the girl independently came to relatives in St. Petersburg, contacted her father and asked to pick her up.” Now she is at home on bail.

– Do you have any fears that Leyla was forced to return home by threats from her relatives?

– We do not know exactly what is happening in Leila’s family right now. She herself did not inform us of any threats at the current moment. Of course, you can never be completely sure of anything, but we have every reason to believe that this was indeed a voluntary decision, taken taking into account the prevailing circumstances and possible risks.

Those who are familiar with Leila’s situation expressed their opinion.

“Most likely, she realized that there was no help from the police and there would not be, and her parents would not calm down until they found her, and she simply gave up,” our source shared. – Outsiders, in fact, people will not be able to provide for her forever, rent an apartment. And she needs to study, get an education, take place in life. But she can’t – because her data is everywhere, she is under house arrest… She is a very young girl, she was under constant psychological pressure. I’m so sorry Leila. It is not known what awaits her …

Mufti of Moscow, Imam-Khatib of the Moscow Cathedral Mosque Ildar Alyautdinov MK commented on this situation in the following way:

– According to Islam, a girl or woman does not have the right to leave the family hearth (home) without permission and without being accompanied by a male relative. Islam pays special attention to this. And here it is important to recall that any order of the Almighty has its own meaning. The essence of this rule is to protect the girl (woman) from possible dangers, and to be more precise, to protect her honor, health and life.

If the girl is subjected to violence and oppression at home, then this instruction will only harm her. Which is also unacceptable from the point of view of religion. However, sometimes adult children react very sharply to advice and restrictions imposed by their parents.

Unfortunately, we do not know exactly what happened in the case of Leyla Gireeva. The reasons may be very different.
