Russian retailers have opened pre-orders for the new Honor MagicBook Art 14 laptop. Quite quickly, the laptop, presented in early September in Berlin at the annual International Consumer Electronics Exhibition IFA, reached domestic retail. I managed to get a little acquainted with the features of the model.
The most noticeable feature of the new product is the removable modular camera. It is hidden in the left side of the device and can be removed from there when pressed. The user can install it in the usual quality, like a front camera, or, if necessary, turn it in the opposite direction and take pictures or broadcast what is happening behind the top cover of the laptop. The camera is attached using magnets and cannot be used separately from the computer.
The solution is quite interesting. A camera in a laptop is a necessary element, but not for every owner and only in special scenarios. Its traditional integration above the display forces you to either increase the entire width of the top frame, or come up with something like a “notch”, like Apple, or hide the camera in a folding keyboard button, like Huawei, for example. The removable camera almost eliminated the display of the Honor MagicBook Art 14 from frames around the perimeter. At the same time, a sensor with a higher quality can be installed in the module itself, which simply due to its physical size would not fit gracefully into the top cover of a laptop.
This solution also has noticeable disadvantages. A separate module can be lost, broken, or the connector on the laptop in which the camera is hidden can be damaged. There is a need to somehow monitor, especially care for and, possibly, clean the “seating” area. In general, it requires careful handling.
In addition to the removable camera, Honor MagicBook Art 14 is notable for its light weight, 1 kg and 1 cm thick. For a laptop with a 14.6-inch display diagonal, these are excellent indicators. To reduce weight and at the same time increase the strength of the case, the creators used magnesium alloy and titanium in production. In the maximum configuration, the cost of the new product reaches 200 thousand rubles. The vendor determines this amount by the equipment and technologies on board, among which there are artificial intelligence tools that are already mandatory for modern technology.
