Air conditioner manufacturer Daikin to phase out Chinese components in 2024

One of the largest manufacturers of air conditioners in the world, the Japanese company Daikin Industries intends to stop using components manufactured in China in its production, the agency reports. Nikkei.
The company plans to rebuild its supply chain to be independent of Chinese parts as early as March 2024. It is reported that the Japanese company came to this decision after a series of severe coronavirus lockdowns in China, during which the work of many large factories, including those for foreign companies, was completely suspended in the country. Daikin intends to use more parts from Japan in the production of air conditioners, as well as from suppliers from Southeast Asia.
Since the mid-2010s, the Japanese air conditioner manufacturer has been very dependent on the supply of components from China: the share of components reached 35%. In recent years, Daikin has somewhat reduced imports from China, but even now the share of Chinese components in its production reaches 20%.
