After the news about the restoration of the Trinity, they started talking about the loss of Andrey Rublev's masterpiece

Art historians suggest compiling a list of monuments that cannot be moved

The trip to the Trinity-Sergius Lavra turned out to be serious injuries for Andrey Rublev's "Trinity": numerous peeling of the paint layer appeared, 61 sections were damaged, 5 of them were emergency and needed to be strengthened. Art critics discussed the methodology of the upcoming restoration at the Expanded Restoration Council in early September. And now the protocol of the meeting has surfaced, which is in no hurry to talk about in the Tretyakov Gallery, despite all the unrest of the restorers, concerned about the state of the monument. MK contacted one of the members of the restoration council, director of the Andrey Rublev Museum of Old Russian Culture and Art, Mikhail Mindlin, and found out the details.

Recall that the Trinity was taken to Sergiev Posad on July 16 and returned to the Tretyakov Gallery on the night of July 18-19. The restorers were against the transportation of the monument, mindful of the deplorable consequences of the exhibition in the New Tretyakov Gallery in 2008, after which the icon had to be restored. But then the "Trinity" made a very small trip - a couple of kilometers long. But the consequences were serious. The experts outlined all the risks in a letter and sent it to the Ministry of Culture along with the protocol of the restoration council, which took place on May 24. Despite all the protests, the monument of ancient Russian art nevertheless went on tour to the Trinity-Sergius Lavra. Now on the face of a change in the state of the "Trinity".

“At the Expanded Restoration Council, we were shown photos and videos of the Trinity before and after the removal,” says Mindlin. - In a number of areas, peeling of the paint layer appeared, in some places the soil lagged behind the base. The restorers of the Tretyakov Gallery proposed a method for strengthening and conserving the affected areas. The members of the Extended Restoration Council supported the proposed methodology. It was understood that it was necessary to immediately begin restoration activities in order to prevent further peeling of painting and soil. If the patient is unwell, he must be treated.

- How bad is it? Can we lose Trinity?

- In my opinion, there is no irreparable catastrophe yet, but this does not mean that we should subject this unique monument to such tests. You need to make a list of the most significant paintings and decorative arts that should not be put at risk. I can’t name specific things now, the list should be discussed by a specially created commission of experts from the museum community. The main criterion is the state of preservation of works that are a national treasure. Probably, some order of the Government should appear on the impossibility of moving such cultural objects. But if, God forbid, there is an urgent need for transportation, as during the evacuation during the Second World War, then for moving it is necessary to make a special sealed display case or capsules with anti-vandal protection and a system to maintain a stable temperature and humidity regime inside. It should be made like a spaceship. The monument must be placed in a special showcase right in the museum, in stable conditions for it. In this showcase, he must exhibit and return back. It can be removed from the "spaceship" only in conditions of temperature and humidity that are stable for it. In such a capsule, mechanisms must be provided that dampen vibrations during movement and prevent the possibility of mechanical damage during transportation. As for the state of the Trinity now, the changes are obvious. This is a consequence of a violation of the temperature and humidity regime.

"MK" contacted the press service of the Tretyakov Gallery to clarify the timing of the restoration, the need for which experts discussed at the aforementioned Extended Restoration Council on September 8th. The museum confirmed that the council was, however, it was difficult to indicate the timing of the restoration. "The relevant documents have not yet been signed," the press service of the State Tretyakov Gallery told MK. That is, the restoration has not yet begun, while only the methodology was discussed.

Obviously, the public will not soon see the "Trinity" in the halls of the Tretyakov Gallery.
