Researcher Ildar Rakhmatulin from Heriot-Watt University in Scotland has come up with a way to fight cockroaches, hornets and flies without harm to people and the environment. He published his work in the journal Oriental Insects.

Rakhmatulin has developed a laser system with machine vision that can neutralize cockroaches at a distance of up to 1.2 meters. The power of the device can be adjusted depending on the purpose: to scare away the insect or kill it. The cost of the equipment is about $250.

The scientist reports that traditional insect pest control is still based on the use of toxins and other hazardous chemicals that harm the environment. The laser, according to him, does not harm anyone, except for the target that needs to be affected.
