A planet was found in the orbit of the single star closest to the Solar System
Astrophysicists led by Jonay Gonzalez Hernandez from the Canary Institute of Astrophysics in Spain have concluded that there is a planet in orbit around Barnard's star, dubbed Barnard b.
Barnard's Star is approximately 5.96 light years from the Sun. Closer to the solar system is only the triple system Alpha Centauri.
It is assumed that Barnard b is one of the few known exoplanets that is inferior in mass to Earth. It most likely cannot support Earth-type life because it is located close to its star and is too hot for water to remain in liquid form.
