12-year-old Mikhail Paretsky became the champion of the Sakhalin Region in chess



On September 30 Sakhalin hosted the regional chess championship. For the first time in history, a 12-year-old chess player became the owner of the gold award of the blitz tournament. During the fights, he beat several serious adult opponents, according to sopka.ru.

The blitz was attended by 27 chess players from Korsakov and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. They played 11 Swiss system rounds with a time control of three minutes per game plus 2 seconds per move.

After three rounds, chess players from Korsakov Mikhail Paretsky and Artem Rossiychenko took the lead. In the fourth round, they drew, and went toe to toe until the middle of the tournament. In the sixth round, Rossiychenko lost, and Mikhail Paretsky defeated his opponent, and began to lead the nearest pursuers by one point.

In the seventh and eighth rounds, Paretsky drew, but won the remaining games. As a result, the athlete won the title of the strongest, gaining 9.5 points out of 11 possible.

The 33-year-old chess player Tatyana Marinina, well-known in Sakhalin, became the women's blitz champion.
